LENOIR, NC (February 10, 2023) — Kindergarten is an important milestone for children and their families, and Caldwell County Schools is available to assist parents with enrolling their child for this memorable and exciting experience. All parents whose children will turn five years old on or before Aug 31, 2023, and would like to enroll them in kindergarten this fall are encouraged to go to caldwellschools.com and begin the registration process.
To enroll online for kindergarten, parents will follow these basic steps:
If a child is currently participating in the Caldwell County Schools Pre-K program, parents will follow a slightly different process, since their student’s information is already entered into the districtwide data management system. Enrollment instructions for these students will be distributed to parents through the Pre-K program.
Now through the end of February is the time to enroll children in kindergarten or the preschool program for the 2023-24 school year. Applications for the 2023-2024 school year are available at caldwellschools.com. Even though kindergarten is offered in every elementary school, the Pre-K program is available at 12 different elementary schools and staffed by a certified birth-kindergarten teacher and high qualified teacher assistants. Children applying for NCPK slots must be age 4 to be eligible.
For limited English families, interpreters will provide support for kindergarten and Pre-K enrollment as well as assistance with the student transfer application. This event is scheduled on Feb 16, 2023, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Caldwell County Schools Preschool Readiness Center in the Freedman Staff Development Room, located at 332 Greenhaven Drive NW in Lenoir.
All other parents who would like to apply for a student transfer for their rising kindergarten student should contact Joy Parker, Student Support Services administrative assistant, at 828.728-8407 ext. 140175. The Open Enrollment period for student transfer requests closes on Feb 28, 2023.
Once parents complete the kindergarten enrollment process, they will be contacted by their child’s school to schedule a Kindergarten Screening appointment. This is an opportunity for families to become more acquainted with the kindergarten teachers and the school environment in which they will create positive and lasting experiences.
Below is the Kindergarten Screening Schedule to follow:
