Photo Contest to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Town of Granite Falls
GRANITE FALLS, NC (April 11, 2019) — May 1, 2019 marks the 120th anniversary of the incorporation of the Town of Granite Falls. In celebration, the Granite Falls History Committee is sponsoring a People’s Choice Photo Contest at the Granite Falls History and Transportation Museum. The Committee is currently seeking photos in four (4) categories:
- Town Government (to highlight services that employees, elected officials, and volunteers provide for the Town)
- Business (to showcase people buying, selling, manufacturing, providing services, etc.)
- Transportation (to record vehicles, phases of road construction, traffic signs, businesses that support transportation, etc.)
- Events/Activities (to feature church functions, civic club projects, theatrical productions, sporting events, leisure activities, etc.).
The Committee is particularly looking for photos that capture the present for future generations.
Photos submitted for the contest must depict life in Granite Falls (and the immediate area) between May 1, 2018 and April 30, 2019.
Persons wishing to enter the contest will find entry forms online at www.granitefallshistorymuseum.org, on Facebook under “Granite Falls History and Transportation Museum,” and at the museum located at 107 Falls Avenue in Granite Falls. Photographers may enter two (2) photos in each category. Entries must be 8” X 10” or 8 ½” X 11” and matted or mounted on heavy cardboard. Volunteers at the museum will accept entries on Saturdays and Sundays (except April 20th and April 21st) between 2 and 4 p.m. Photographers wishing to deliver photos at other times should call Linda Crowder at (828) 396-1066 to make other arrangements.
Winners of the Photo Contest will be selected by visitors to the museum between 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4th and Saturday, June 1st who will vote on their favorite photos in each of the four (4) categories. The Granite Falls History Committee will host a public reception to honor all photographers and to recognize the winners on Sunday, June 2nd between 2 and 4 p.m. The museum is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 until 4 p.m. except holidays such as Easter Weekend, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day Weekend.
