Hickory Fire Department takes delivery of new Aircraft Rescue Vehicle

HICKORY, NC (July 3, 2017)…In conjunction with the Hickory Regional Airport, the Hickory Fire Department has taken delivery of a new state-of-the-art aircraft rescue vehicle. The new all-wheel-drive vehicle, identified as Engine 4, is a Rosenbauer Airwolf C3 2-door International 7400 4×4 cab. The new truck is powered by a Cummins 350 horse powered diesel engine with an Allison automatic transmission. This vehicle will be a replacement for a 1990 GMC Topkick ARFF truck.

Equipped with seating for two crew members, it also a bumper turret with a FLIR camera (forward looking infrared), which can be used at night and in fog, or to detect warm objects against a cooler background. Engine 4 also has one twin agent handline, water tank capacity of 500 gallons, 60-gallon foam tank, 500 pounds of dry chemical, and a 250 gallon per minute fire pump. The truck is also equipped with mounted generator and scene lights, which will assist emergency personnel during nighttime responses.

This truck meets the Federal Aviation Administration requirements for the Hickory Regional Airport’s index and class rating. The $328,892 vehicle was funded by FAA grant funds.
