Emergency Trail Closures on Nantahala National Forest

FRANKLIN, NC (November 2, 2016)…New fire starts on the Nantahala Ranger District have resulted in trail closures due to fire activity:

• The Appalachian Trail is closed from Rock Gap to Winding Stairs Gap due to Knob Creek Fire.

• The Bartram Trail is closed between Wine Spring Bald and Nantahala Lake due to the Wine Spring Fire.

The Boardtree Road (Forest Service Road 388) that leads to Rufus Morgan Trailhead has re-opened.

HIGH Fire Danger as Hot, Dry Conditions Continue!

NO Campfires allowed except in developed campgrounds with fees.
