Dr. David Lowry appointed to serve as Chief Medical Officer at Caldwell UNC Healthcare
LENOIR, NC (August 1, 2017)…Dr. David Lowry was recently appointed to serve as Chief Medical Officer at Caldwell UNC Healthcare effective August 1st. The role of Chief Medical Officer is common in large hospitals and has proven to be effective in smaller hospitals. All UNC Hospitals have a Chief Medical Officer. As CMO, Dr. Lowry will have direct line responsibility for the Medical Staff Office. He will support and assist the Chief of Staff. He will continue to lead the Hospitalist program and will provide direct patient care on occasion. Dr. Lowry will be the physician advisor for the Clinical Documentation program, the Utilization Review program, the Respiratory Care department and the Rehabilitation department.
Dr. Lowry received his medical degree from Vanderbilt Medical School and completed his internship in general surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Lowry completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn, Ohio. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and board certified in Hospice and Palliative Care. He has over 25 years of hospital medicine experience.
Dr. Lowry joined Caldwell Memorial Hospital in 2004 and was instrumental in building our excellent Hospitalist service. He has served as Chief of Medicine, Vice Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff. He was selected by his peers to receive the Donald D. McNeill, Jr. MD Award for Outstanding Physician Leadership in 2014.
