Deep Repair Coming to High Country…Watauga County road closed three days
NORTH WILKESBORO, NC (September 1, 2017)…An N.C. Department of Transportation team will be digging deep next week.
A maintenance crew will be replacing a pipe starting Tuesday, Sept. 5, which will require the closure of Poplar Grove Road near Rivers Street, just outside the Boone city limits.
They will be replacing a pipe which has failed and caused the road to settle. The work near the Appalachian State University campus is expected to take three days and could involve digging as deep as 23 feet below street level.
A temporary detour involves drivers taking Poplar Grove Road southeast to U.S. 321/Blowing Rock Road South, then to N.C. 105 South and finally back to Poplar Grove. The reverse is advised as a detour as well.
Transportation officials remind motorist to drive with caution, be aware of workers, and obey all posted signs.
