Granite Falls Garden Club “Yard of the Month” for May

GRANITE FALLS, NC (May 7, 2017)…The Granite Falls Garden Club has presented the May “Yard of the Month” to the home of Jerry and Teresa Jackson on Duke Street in Granite Falls.

The Jackson’s put a lot of hours into their yard. Jerry gets the credit for the groomed lawn and Teresa with the Iris garden.

On the day of presenting the award the Club was given a tour of the Jackson’s Iris Garden with Teresa being our guide with information on how to have and maintain a beautiful Iris Garden.

Jerry and Teresa started collecting Irises from family and a friend’s donation in the late 70’s – most of them where historical varieties, lavender, white, and purple that are commonly seen in North Carolina flower gardens. On a visit to see her brother, Edward, in Oregon, they toured Schreiner’s Iris Garden in Salem and decided to expand their garden by purchasing a rainbow collection which was a group of Irises in a variety of colors. That was in 2005, and since then the Jackson’s have continued to grow their flower garden to over 70 Iris varieties and with more than 1000 plants.
