Western Piedmont Symphony Presents “Dances & Duets”

HICKORY, NC (October 16, 2017)…Twice the pleasure! The WPS Orchestra and soloists are double-teaming for Masterworks II:  Dances & Duets.  Under the direction of Maestro John Gordon Ross, the award winning Western Piedmont Symphony will perform two concerts on November 4, 2017.  Sponsored by Catawba Valley Medical Center, the first concert will be an abbreviated Family Concert at 3 PM in the Drendel Auditorium on the SALT Block. Bring the kids. It’s a great time to introduce them to the symphony.  Let them pet instruments at our instrument petting zoo prior to the concert.  Tickets for the abbreviated afternoon concert are $10/adult and $6/children.

The second concert of the day will be the full Masterworks II:  Dances & Duets at 7:30 PM in the Drendel Auditorium.  Duets will feature the talents of soloists Luke Boudreault and William Lawing on trumpet and Serafim Smigelskiy and Sally Ross on cello.  Soloists are sponsored by Robert Abbey Fine Lighting. Selections include:  Vivaldi’s Concerto in C Major for Two Trumpets, Strings and Continuo and Concerto in G minor for Two Violoncellos and String Orchestra; two Tangos by Piazzolla; two Ragtime pieces by Scott Joplin (arranged by Maestro Ross); Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances, and Stravinsky’s Suite from the Ballet Pulcinella.

Tickets for Masterworks II range from $22-$42.  All tickets are available through the WPS website at wpsymphony.org/tickets, or email at info@wpsymphony.org, or call the Symphony box office at 828.324.8603 from 10am-2pm M-F.  Seating is limited.  Additional information can be found at WPSymphony.org.

This concert will also honor and pay tribute to the North Carolina Arts Council.  For 50 years NCAC has been the driving force to promote and support the arts throughout the state. According to Wayne Martin, Executive Director, North Carolina Arts Council: The ideal that founded the North Carolina Arts Council in 1967 was ‘arts for all citizens.’ Since that time, we’ve worked to create an expansive network of nonprofit arts organizations so that citizens can participate in the arts and artists can contribute to our state’s growth and development. WPS truly appreciates the support and leadership they have received for 50 years.

The Western Piedmont Symphony is a grant recipient of the North Carolina Arts Council and a funded affiliate of the United Arts Council of Catawba County.  Business offices are located on the SALT Block at 243 Third Avenue NE, Hickory.  Business hours are 9:00 am until 4:00 pm Monday-Friday.
