Western Piedmont Symphony Opens 53rd Season with World Premiere

HICKORY, NC (September 14, 2017)…Under the direction of Maestro John Gordon Ross, the award winning Western Piedmont Symphony will perform Masterworks I, Rhapsody in Blue, at 7:30 pm on Saturday, October 7 at P.E. Monroe Auditorium on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne University.  Tickets range from $22-$42.  Tickets can be purchased online at wpsymphony.org/tickets or at the symphony box office M-F from 10am to 2 pm, or call 828.324. 8603.  Save money and time, buy a season tickets in advance.  Additional information can be found at WPSymphony.org.

The first concert explores music from across the globe. WPS is pleased to present the return of pianist, Michael Lewin, who will perform Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Additional works by Moncayo, Still, and Gottschalk will be performed as the orchestra travels across the globe.  The evening will end with the World Premiere of composer Dan Locklair’s Symphony #2 America.  This concert was made possible through the generous support of Dr. Brian Adair, Carl & Sharon Cline, Becky & Forrest Ferrell, Dr. Tom & Sandra Foster, Kevin & D’Ann Grell and Chip & Lynn Young.

The Western Piedmont Symphony is a grant recipient of the North Carolina Arts Council and a funded affiliate of the United Arts Council of Catawba County.  Business offices are located on the SALT Block at 243 Third Avenue NE, Hickory.  Business hours are 9:00 am until 4:00 pm Monday-Friday.
