GRANITE FALLS, NC (January 12, 2018)…The precautionary boil water advisory, issued for the Dudley Avenue area on January 10th, has been lifted as of 9:30 a.m. today. The Town’s potentially affected customers were notified through CodeRed Wednesday evening immediately following the water line repair in a precautionary effort by the Town to inform those citizens of any potential issue per state protocol. Regulations require that water sampling and testing occur 24 hours after an incident, and that all tests show no contamination before an advisory can be lifted. These tests were conducted in the Dudley Avenue area and indicated no contamination in the water supply.
Town staff recommends that customers using their water for the first time since the break, run their taps for at least one minute before using it for cooking or drinking. This helps remove stagnant water from plumbing and brings in fresh water from water mains.
Additional boil water advisories could occur going forward due to the recent cold weather and more rigorous water quality standards from state and federal regulators. The Town has had no issues with water quality but advisories will be issued as needed as a precaution to protect the health and well-being of our citizens.
This incident should remind all customers to make sure they are signed up for the Town CodeRed alerts to receive notification of any future advisories. Customers can sign up on the Town of Granite Falls website (www.granitefallsnc.com) or by calling the Town Office at 828-396-3131 and providing their name, phone number (for texts and calls), e-mail, and service address.
