Friday, September 6
VAYA Health’s Geriatric and Adult Mental Health Specialty Team will be at the Caldwell Senior Center to present two FREE programs. At 10:00am they will talk about “Suicide Indicators, Response & Prevention” followed by “Crisis Prevention: Keeping Your Cool Under Pressure” at 11:00am. Community individuals, agency staff serving the aged, caregivers and anyone interested in learning about these topics are encouraged to attend. Please call 758-2883 to register. Friday, September 6
Hugh Barnes will be at the Senior Center from 1:00-3:00pm on Sept. 6th to present a Computer Class focusing on social media Apps (Facebook Twitter, Snapchat) and other features on your smartphone or tablet. Other topics covered will include using Paypal, Youtube, Wikipedia, Adobe Reader, free storage options and more. The cost of this class is $10 per person. Please register at (828) 758-2883. Despite its satisfactions, caregiving can take a toll physically, emotionally and socially. Carolina Caring will be at the Caldwell Senior Center to present a FREE program called “Who’s Caring for the Caregiver” at 10:00am that addresses the major challenges and offer practical tips for avoiding burnout. Do you like to create handmade items? The Senior Crafters are holding a special afternoon craft class on September 13th from 2:00-4:00 at the Caldwell Senior Center. Caldwell Partnership for Life’s Journey is starting a new Caregiver Support Group to build a support system with people who understand. It is a time to share information and coping strategies, talk about feelings and concerns and learn about community resources. It is held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Caldwell Senior Center. Dinner will be provided by Hickory Falls Health and Rehabilitation. Please register by calling (828) 758-2883. Attorney Angela Clark will hold a FREE Legal Talk on September 20th from 10:00-11:00am at the Senior Center called “When a Spouse Dies”. She will discuss the considerations that need to be made when you lose a spouse including various probate options available and what steps to take regarding his/her assets. Bring your questions! Friday, September 20th
The Better Breather’s Club® will meet on September 20th at 11:00am at the Caldwell Senior Center. This is a local support group that offers patient-centered, and community-based educational opportunities to persons with chronic lung diseases especially COPD, but also asthma, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis [IPF], lung cancer and other chronic lung diseases. Family, friends and support persons are welcome. Volunteers facilitate the groups and work with a Lung Association staff member to provide the service. Please register at (828) 758-2883. September 23rd is National Fall Prevention Awareness Day! Join Chris Garcia with UNC Health Care at the Caldwell Senior Center at 3:00pm to enjoy a program on Fall Prevention. The Caldwell Senior Center is having a Health Fair from 10:00 AM-12:00 noon on September 27th for older adults. Please bring a friend and tour the booths full of information and goodies from agencies all over the area. The admission is FREE as well as blood pressure checks, hearing screenings and video otoscopy (camera that looks in your ears). You may also get a flu shot while here.
