LENOIR, NC (March 14, 2024) ⇒ On Thursday, March 14, 2024, at approximately 8:13 PM, officers from the City of Lenoir Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. The crash occurred within the 500 block of Wilkesboro Boulevard just east of Hibriten Drive.
The initial investigation into the crash indicates the pedestrian, Deshon Chester, was attempting to cross Wilkesboro Boulevard and stopped in the center turn lane.
A white 1996 Ford SUV driven by Bradley Walker, entered the center turn lane from the westbound lanes of Wilkesboro Boulevard. Bradley Walker did not see Deshon Chester standing in the turn lane and as a result a collision occurred.
As a result of the initial impact, Deshon Chester was forced into the eastbound lanes of Wilkesboro Boulevard. At the time of the collision, a 2023 Toyota SUV driven by Makenzie Thompson was traveling east on Wilkesboro Boulevard. Due to Deshon Chester lying in the eastbound lane of travel, Makenzie Thompson unavoidably collided with Chester.
As a result of the crash, Chester succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, Investigators believe no impairment, or extenuating circumstances contributed to this unfortunate accident. Responding Officers with the Lenoir Police Department, Lenoir Fire Department, and Caldwell County Emergency Services assisted with this tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Deshon Chester and all who were involved in this tragic accident.
The City of Lenoir Police Department is continuing its investigation into this incident. Anyone with information regarding this or any other crime(s), is encouraged to contact the City of Lenoir Police Department at 828-757-2100 or Lenoir/Caldwell County Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 828-758-8300.
