Town of Granite Falls receives Safety Awards

GRANITE FALLS, NC (May 18, 2018)…The Town of Granite Falls received six NC Department of Labor (NCDOL) Certificates of Safety Achievement from North Carolina Commissioner of Labor Cherrie Berry. The certificates were in recognition of a substantial reduction of injuries and illnesses and for the promotion of safer working conditions in 2017.

The Town of Granite Falls Administration, Police, Fire, Recreation, Public Works, and Public Utilities (Water, Sewer & Electric) Departments all qualified for the NCDOL Gold Safety Award. The Gold Safety Award is based on the number of injuries requiring “days away from work or restricted time” (DART).  To qualify for the NCDOL Gold Safety Award, the departments were required to achieve a DART rate that was 50% or below the statewide average for their particular industry. The Fire, Public Works, and Public Utilities Departments each received the NCDOL Gold Safety Award for the second consecutive year.

Town Manager Jerry Church stated “the Granite Falls Town Council, Town Department Heads and I have placed an on-going emphasis on obtaining and maintaining a safe working environment through the implementation of the Town’s enhanced safety training program. We are all extremely pleased and proud that every Town Department received the NCDOL Gold Safety Award for 2017. Our goal is to continue to keep Town employees healthy and productive by providing “state-of-the-art” equipment, safe worksites and proper safety training for all Town employees.”
