Town of Granite Falls Fire Department is seeking applicants for the position of Fire Engineer

GRANITE FALLS, NC (June 26, 2017)…The Town of Granite Falls Fire Department is seeking applicants for the position of Fire Engineer. The position is open until filled. The Fire Engineer participates in incident response, including emergency medical service and technical rescue, operation of fire apparatus, firefighting, fire suppression training, and remediation activities for chemical spills, hazardous materials response/mitigation and equipment and facilities maintenance. The Fire Engineer must have the ability to make effective decisions under pressure for all tasks performed particularly in operating fire apparatus during incidence responses. The Fire Engineer is subject to the hazards of incidence responses including in both indoor and outdoor environments, in extreme hot and cold temperatures, loud noise, vibration, moving parts, high heat chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, wearing respirators and working in close quarters. The Fire Engineer is also subject to the final OSHA standards on blood borne pathogens and must be able to perform the basic life operational functions of construction type work including lifting 100 lbs. on an occasional basis, 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and 20 lbs. on a constant basis. The position requires visual acuity to size up the color, volume and extent of fire involvement at fire scenes, to operate heavy fire apparatus in emergency situations, and to prepare records and reports. The position requires a high school diploma, or equivalent such as a GED, a valid Class B NC Driver’s License, a N.C. Certification for E.M.T., Firefighter Certification, Technical Rescue Certification, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator Aerial, Haz-Mat Operations, and at least 5 yrs. of practical fire suppression experience. An Associate degree in Fire Science, N. C. Fire Instructor Level II is a plus. The Fire Engineer must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed and is subject to call-back response. Salary range for the Fire Engineer is $31,272 to $46,908 and the starting salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications. The Town of Granite Falls offers an excellent benefit package.
