“This was a special day!”

HICKORY, NC (November 27, 2018) — This was a special day!  Recently firefighters got to meet a special man and his family.  Mark and Melissa Bollinger stopped by to thank emergency personnel for saving his life.  On August 25, 2018 firefighters responded to a medical call for an unconscious male.  While responding to the incident, the Communication Center advised the caller believed the male patient had stopped breathing and was in cardiac arrest.  Engine 2 arrived on the scene just over four minutes later; where they confirmed the patient was in cardiac arrest and immediately started procedures for life saving measures. Ladder 2 and Battalion 2 arrived and assisted with CPR.  After several weeks in Intensive Care Mr. Bollinger has returned to his own residence, continues rehabilitation, and is enjoying time with his family.

We work every day to make good things happen but this was a special day!  Thanks to all those involved.  Hickory Fire – Eric Bucher, Bradley Hill, Spencer Carpenter, Jason Lowrance, Thomas Oxentine, Stephen Taylor, John Warren, Catawba County EMS- Allen Barkley, Michael Smith-Altizer, Steve Rowe, TJ Seagle, 911 dispatchers, and Hickory Police Department.
