The Town of Sawmills issues declaration of state of emergency

SAWMILLS, NC (September 15, 2018) — Mayor Johnnie Greene of the Town of Sawmill, has declared a State of Emergency for the Town of Sawmills effective 10 a.m., Saturday, September 15, 2018, due to potential public safety hazards relating to Tropical Storm Florence and its possible effects on the Town of Sawmills. The Town of Sawmills has begun to feel some effects from this storm system and there is the potential for heavy amounts of rain and wind, which in turn, may disrupt emergency services response as well as other public services including utilities and other infrastructure.

Town Administrator Christopher Todd explains, “There are no restrictions placed on the community at this time, and we do not anticipate on there being any. This State of Emergency has been put in place as a precaution in case the storm turns for the worse.”

Town officials encourage citizens to monitor their local and national weather channels, to stay inside Saturday night through Sunday, and take precautions into Monday.

The State of Emergency will remain in effect until officials recommend that a declaration to terminate the State of Emergency is made.
