Students compete in NC SkillsUSA competition

LENOIR, NC (May 1, 2019) — As students successfully prepare for the workplace and learn employability skills through high school Career Technical Education (CTE) courses, they also have the opportunity to enter industry-designed competitions organized through SkillsUSA.

High school students at Hibriten, West Caldwell, South Caldwell and the Caldwell Career Center Middle College participated in the North Carolina SkillsUSA competition with 20 top 10 finishers and two state champions. Riley McNeil of South Caldwell finished first in Construction Estimating and Caleb Crisp, senior at WCHS, won the state championship in plumbing for the third consecutive year. Crisp will compete at the national SkillsUSA competition this summer in Louisville, Kentucky.

Extemporaneous Speaking – Alan Clark – 5th place

Robotics: Urban Search & Rescue – Isaac Bast and Garrett Barlowe – 4th place

Television (Video) Production – Megan Conley and Jennifer Dominquez – 3rd place

Hibriten High School:

Maggie Willis – Job Interview Competition – 4th place

South Caldwell High School:

Trenton Johnson – Masonry Estimating – 3rd place

Riley McNeil – Construction Estimating – 1st place

Austin Teague- Construction Estimating – 5th place

West Caldwell High School:

Caleb Crisp – Plumbing – 1st Place

Luke Norris – Plumbing – 4th Place
