Student wins statewide poetry & art contest

LENOIR, NC (May 1, 2019) — Rylee Carter, an eighth-grade student at Collettsville School, won 1st place in the Original Art Category 1 (Middle Division 6-8) in North Carolina’s Career Development Month Poetry & Art Contest sponsored by the North Carolina Career Development Association (NCCDA).

The congratulatory letter to Carter said that “You are among a select few of North Carolina citizens who have demonstrated superior abilities in poetry writing and visual arts in this year’s contest.”

Carter’s state-winning entry has been submitted to the National Career Development Association’s Career Development Month Poster & Art contest and will be judged in the national competition. National winners will be announced late spring 2019.

Carter received a certificate of recognition and will be recognized by the Board of Education at the School Board meeting in May.

NCCDA letter of recognition to Carter said, “Through it, you have created a wonderful example of this year’s contest theme, Using Careers to Break Barriers, Empower Lives & Achieve Equity.”
