HUDSON, NC (August 8, 2018) — In an effort to create a safer school campus, South Caldwell High School will implement new traffic safety procedures at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year.
The road on South Caldwell’s campus connecting Spartan Drive and Bert Huffman Drive entrances is often used as a cut-through by many drivers during school hours. To limit road traffic while school is in session, the entrance gate on Bert Huffman Drive – the Granite Falls entrance – will be closed from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm when students are in school.
The gate on the Granite Falls side will be reopened from 2:30 pm until 8:30 am throughout the week and will remain open on weekends and holidays. The Hudson gate on Spartan Drive will continue to be open at all times.
“We feel that this adjustment will greatly increase our knowledge of who is on campus and why they are here,” said South Caldwell principal Chad Smith. “We understand that this decision will cause some extra travel time for some; however, we want to have a safe and secure campus at all times, especially when our students are in class. We appreciate the support and understanding from our parents and community with this much needed change.”
