South Caldwell teacher selected by US Chamber to tour Bahrain

LENOIR, NC (December 6, 2018) — Carla Ingram, World History Teacher at South Caldwell High School, is one of only 10 passionate, highly accomplished US classroom innovators and curriculum developers to be selected as a Bilateral US-Arab Chamber of Commerce Teachers Educating Across Cultures in Harmony (TEACH) Fellow.

Ingram applied to the TEACH program in early September and was notified a few weeks later that she was one of 10 selected to participate in November. The program accepts applications from all over the United States, and she represented not only her high school but also Caldwell County and North Carolina. “I feel honored to have been selected,” said Ingram. “I am happy to help others in Caldwell County apply for this wonderful experience next year and also learn about other professional development opportunities available to teachers.”

The 2018 TEACH Fellowship cohort toured across the Kingdom of Bahrain. Ingram encountered invaluable opportunities for hands-on collaboration with regional learning authorities and became immersed in Bahrain’s rich culture and heritage.

“The TEACH program opened my eyes to how educators and business professionals can work together to build bridges of understanding,” said Ingram. “The variety of cultural, corporate, and educational visits we did on the trip will provide a treasure trove of rich materials for my World History curriculum that I could not get any other way.”
