Smith promoted to Captain at Lenoir Police Department

LENOIR, NC (August 8, 2018) — Brian Smith has been promoted to Captain of the Support Services Division of the Lenoir Police Department.

Chief Brent Phelps made the announcement yesterday, Aug. 7, 2018.

“The opening in the Support Services Division gave us the opportunity to promote one of our own into the next phase of their law enforcement career,” Phelps said. “Captain Smith will make an excellent division commander for his people, this department, and our community.”

Smith is a 24-year law enforcement veteran, and he has served more than 21 years with the Lenoir Police Department. During his career with Lenoir, Smith has served as a Patrol Officer, K-9 Officer, Narcotics Investigator, Police Corporal, Narcotics Sergeant, Investigations Lieutenant, Training Lieutenant, and Special Response Team member. Smith also earned the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate, which is the highest police recognition awarded by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

The Support Services Division of the department provides Emergency 911 services for police, medical, fire, and rescue needs within the city. The division oversees records management, logistics, finances, and training. Support Services also implements professional standards policies for all employees within the department, works to obtain state and federal grant funding, and ensures officers have the best technology possible to provide the best service possible to the City of Lenoir.
