Several people involved in kidnapping, shooting and attempted murder

LENOIR, NC (October 27, 2021) — On Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at 8:55 am Deputies with Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Emergency Room at the Caldwell Memorial Hospital after receiving a call from Hospital Staff that a shooting victim was dropped off at the Emergency Room. The victim of the shooting, Austin Clay Colley, age 24 of Hickory, NC suffered two gunshot wounds to his torso, and he was accompanied by his girlfriend, Angela Nicole Kidd, age 35. Austin Colley reported that earlier in the morning he and his girlfriend were at a residence of an acquaintance and a group of individuals assaulted him and his girlfriend and proceed to bound them and place a blindfold on them. Colley further reported that after some time several of the individuals place him and his girlfriend into a vehicle and transported them to another location where he and his girlfriend were placed on the ground. He indicated the individuals fired multiple shots at him and his girlfriend. He indicated he was hit with gunfire, but his girlfriend did not get struck by gunfire. Colley was later flown to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem for additional treatment and his condition is stable.

Investigators with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Caldwell Memorial Hospital and spoke with Angela Nicole Kidd who corroborated the statements made by Austin Colley and confirmed that she was not struck by any bullets when the shooting occurred. She provided that after the shooting occurred and the individuals involved left, she walked to a nearby road where she flagged down a car that transported them to the Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Investigators worked with both Colley and Kidd and determined that the location where they were assaulted, bound, and blindfolded was 4330 Joplin Road in Hudson, NC. Investigators were also able to identify an abandoned property on Hood’s Creek Road as the location where the shooting took place. Investigators were able to locate items that corroborated the statements of Colley and Kidd at the abandoned property on Hood’s Creek Road.

Deputies with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at 4330 Joplin Road and detained all subjects that were at the location. A search of the location revealed further items and a firearm that corroborated the statements of Colley and Kidd. Investigators conducted interviews with all occupants that were at 4330 Joplin Road and determined that all of the individuals acted in concert with the kidnappings and assaults.

The investigation into this case remains active and additional charges are expected.
