GRANITE FALLS, NC (September 30, 2017)…The Granite Falls Historical Association will host a hike to the falls on Gunpowder Creek and an old fashion picnic at the Granite Falls History and Transportation Museum on Saturday, October 21, 2017 beginning at 11 a. m. Because of its out of the way location, many people have never seen the falls that gives the town its name. Following the hike, there will be a picnic lunch on the grounds of the museum. Persons may bring their own lunch or pre-order a catered meal. The cost for a meal is $5.00 for GFHA members and $8.00 for non-members.
Located at 107 Falls Avenue, the museum is housed in the former home of Andrew Baird, an early settler in Granite Falls. Built in the late 1790s, it is the second oldest residence in Caldwell County. Only Fort Defiance is older. Persons interested in attending may contact the Association by email at gfhistoricalassociation@gmail.com or call President Linda Crowder at (828) 396-1066. Reservations for a meal must be made by Thursday, October 12, 2017. For more information about the museum, go to www.granitefallshistorymuseum.org.
