SCHS math teacher serves as State Beta Sponsor
LENOIR, NC (March 14, 2019) — Jonathan Haas, South Caldwell High School math teacher and distinguished Beta Club sponsor, has been named the North Carolina State Beta Sponsor. This follows the successful completion of serving for two years as the state sponsor elect.
“It is truly a great honor to be selected by my fellow North Carolina sponsors to serve our state organization,” said Haas. “Beta Club has been one of the highlights of my years, both as a student and also as an educator.”
Haas has held the position of Beta Club Sponsor at South Caldwell since 2001 and awarded the NC Beta Sponsor of the Year in 2012. He has been recognized with the Beta School of Merit and Distinction awards for multiple years.
Since 2001, South Caldwell High School Beta students have earned 87 District Convention Awards, four Regional Leadership Awards, 86 NC Convention Awards, 24 National Convention Awards, and 18 National Beta Scholarships.
Haas said that current club members have documented over 9,000 hours of service. “Most of that time has directly benefited schools and organizations that serve Caldwell County,” he said.
As the NC State Beta Sponsor, Haas will organize the state Senior Beta Convention and help facilitate the NC Junior Beta Convention. He will also encourage the establishment of new clubs and promote active participation at state conventions and other Beta activities throughout the state during his tenure until 2021.
Hass said, “It’s invigorating to work with sponsors from across the state to promote the development of academic, artistic, and leadership skills in our students as they seek to ‘lead by serving others.’”
