LENOIR, NC (August 18, 2018) — Parents contributed more than 55,000 volunteer hours last school year, and they are invited to be involved in their children’s education this school year beginning with school orientation.

Studies show that when parents are involved in their children’s education in positive ways their children score better on tests, are better behaved in the classroom and miss fewer days of school. Orientation is the first step in creating a successful pattern of parent involvement.
During an orientation or open house, schools provide student classroom assignments and/or students’ daily schedules. Parents have an opportunity to tour the school, meet their child’s teachers, and register to volunteer in the schools. Information centers are available to showcase programs, such as the before and after care program, parent organizations, breakfast and lunch program, and much more.
Parents receive a packet of information, to include parent announcements, calendars, handbooks, bus safety, etc., and student data forms to complete and return to the school. More importantly, students get to see their friends and new classmates before school officially starts.
