Run for the Dogs Trail Race set for Nov. 11 at Rocky Face Park in Alexander County

TAYLORSVILLE, NC (September 12, 2017)…The Run for the Dogs Trail Race is being held in conjunction with the Rocky Face Rock Climbing Festival on Saturday, November 11 at Rocky Face Mountain Recreational Area in Alexander County. There will be three (3) race distances: 4 miles, 8 miles, and 12 miles. All races start at 8:30 a.m. at the new Rocky Face Park Visitors Center, located at 3645 Rocky Face Church Road, Hiddenite, NC 28636. Participants are asked bring some dog and/or cat food for the Alexander County Animal Shelter.

Registration fee is only $10 for any distance if postmarked by October 31 (add $5 fee after October 31 including race day). T-shirts are not included in the registration fee, so please include an additional $10 if you would like a t-shirt. Race t-shirts are not guaranteed after October 31. Make checks payable to Alexander County. No refunds. Mail check and completed entry form to: Run for the Dogs, 621 Liledoun Road, Taylorsville, NC 28681. All proceeds from these races will go to the Alexander County Animal Shelter.

The start and finish line of each 4-mile loop is at the new Rocky Face Park Visitors Center. Each loop travels up Grindstone Trail to the top. At this intersection, the loop continues straight across and down Prison Camp Trail to the bottom. The trail takes a sharp left and up Buzzard Trail to Hollow Rock Trail up to Grindstone Trail, turning right and back by the Rocky Face Park Visitors Center, continuing on Grindstone to the paved Quarry Trail turning left around by the picnic shelter, turning right at Rascal Trail for a short distance, turning back right on Quarry Trail, then back left on Grindstone Trail to the finish at the new center. Each loop measures approximately 4 miles of hills, roots, rock, mud, asphalt, downhills, and fun! All turns will be marked.

Special awards go to the top three (3) overall males and females in all races. Masters awards will be presented to the first male and female over age 40 finishers in each race. All finishers will receive a custom finisher medal.

Race numbers and shirts may be picked up at the new Rocky Face Park Visitors Center (3645 Rocky Face Church Road, Hiddenite, NC 28636) on Friday, November 10 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Late registrations will also be accepted at that time. Race day registration will be available at the Visitors Center from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11.
