ASHEVILLE, NC (March 24, 2017)…A contractor for the Department of Transportation has closed Rocky Road in order to replace a bridge over Lower Creek in Caldwell County.
The new bridge is the eighth in a 10-bridge contract with James R. Vannoy and Sons. The $9.7 million contract includes 10 bridges, with five located in Wilkes County, three in Alleghany County, and two in Caldwell County.
A 5.5-mile detour around the construction in Gamewell Township has been established, with the most traffic heading east on U.S. 64/18, then right on Southwest Boulevard, then on Miller Hill Road, and back to Rocky Road.
Construction on the new bridge is expected to be complete by July 2017. The final two bridges in the contract should be finished by December.
The Rocky Road Bridge is next to the McCreary Modern Inc. plant.
