Prosecutors will seek the death penalty in the murder case against Lenoir man

NEWTON, NC (August 14, 2018) — The case against a Lenoir man accused of a June 2018 murder in Burke County will proceed as a capital matter.

Prosecutors for the State announced during Burke County Superior Court on Monday, August 13, 2018, that they will seek the death penalty in the murder case against 37-year-old Joshua Nathaniel Beard.

Beard was arrested by law enforcement officers in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in connection with the June 17, 2018, death of Robin Berry Teague and returned to jail in Burke County.

The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. His next court date is set for September 10, 2018.

The case remains under investigation by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
