Possible 2020-2029 NCDOT STIP Development Projects for Caldwell County

CALDWELL COUNTY, NC (June 14, 2018)…As a part of the N.C. Department of Transportation’s transportation plan – called the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), here are a few possible Caldwell County 2020-2029 STIP Development Projects.


Dry Ponds Road – Upgrade and modernize existing roadway from Connelly Springs Road to US 321A and construct 2-lane connector on new location from Dry Ponds Road to Pinewood Road.  There has been discussion that a roundabout may be constructed at the intersection of Bert Huffman Road and Pinewood Road as well.

 


Dudley Shoals Road – Construct a south bound on-ramp onto US 321.


Cajah Mtn. Road – Modernize roadway from Connelly Springs Road to US 321-A.


Pleasant Hill Road – Modernize and upgrade existing roadway.


US 64, NC 18 – Widen US 64 / NC 18 from north of Morganton to the multi-lane section in Gamewell.


New Bridge Over Catawba River…Request Feasibility Study – Upgrade existing roadways (including Grace Chapel Rd) and construct new location roadway. This will create a new connector across the Catawba River connecting southern Caldwell to NE Hickory.


US 64, NC 90 – NC 18 in Caldwell County to West of SR 1313 (Three Forks Church Road) in Alexander County. Upgrade and modernize 2 Lane Roadway.


NC 268 – Upgrade existing road for safety reasons.


Malcolm Boulevard/Connelly Springs Road – Widen exiting roadway from Dry Ponds Road in Caldwell County to US 70 in Rutherford College. FEASIBILITY STUDY ONLY.
