GRANITE FALLS, NC (November 21, 2016)…Rev. Ray Eugene Turnmire, age 91, of East Street, Granite Falls, passed away Monday, November 21, 2016 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care-Hudson. He was born January 11, 1925 in Caldwell County to the late Walter B. and Mary Triplett Turnmire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy Ray Turnmire and Robert Eugene Yount; two brothers, Burchel Turnmire and Stewart Turnmire; and one sister, Joan Fox.
Mr. Turnmire proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. He served as Associate Pastor at Temple Hill Baptist Church and was a member of Free Spirit Baptist Church in Hudson. Mr. Turnmire also served as interim Pastor for several churches in the area. He retired from Shuford Mills after 30 years of employment.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Geneva Bryant Turnmire of the home; two daughters, Linda Hargett and husband Calvin of Granite Falls, and Betty Jo Tomblin and husband Merrill of Rhodhiss; the specials joys of his life were his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 25, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Calvin Hargett, Rev. Clyde Bumgarner and Rev. Ronnie Watts. Interment will immediately follow at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Rockett, Matthew Rockett, Micah Rockett, Brand Blevins, Steven Bowman and Mark Stitt. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mike Fox and David Fox.
