Obituary for Michael Leonard Harris of Granite Falls

GRANITE FALLS, NC (January 23, 2017)…Michael “Mike” Harris, age 49, of Granite Falls went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday, January 23, 2017, after a year long battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Shirley Harris; grandparents Jack and Orlean Barnes and Paul Harris.

Mike worked at Our House Design for 12 years where he was loved by many friends whom he considered family. He was a member of South Lenoir Church of God and desired to be a testimony to others through his battle with cancer. He enjoyed lending a hand to others in need. He cherished his family, friends and all the laughter during football and basketball season.

Survivors left to cherish his memories are his wife Karen Renee Harris of the home; his daughter, April Harris of Greensboro; new blessings, Blake, Melodee, Lexi, Brayden and Bentley; father Leonard Harris; sister Tammy Harris Church; brother David Harris and fiance’ Carol Minton; half-sister, Sheila Lail; two nephews Chris Church and wife Amanda, Justin Harris; one niece, Stephanie Harris; two great-nephews Gunner and Sawyer Church; two sisters-in-law, Delores Hawkins with husband Gerald and Sheila Coffey; brother-in-law, Alan Moretz and wife Deborah.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 25, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at South Lenoir Church of God. The funeral service will be Thursday, January 26, 2017, at 2:00 PM at South Lenoir Church of God with Pastor Ernest Bowes and Pastor Howard Smith officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes to send donations to South Lenoir Church of God, 1786 Hickory Blvd., SW, Lenoir, NC 28645, for the purchase of a church bus in honor of Mike.
