Obituary for Herbert Glenn “Dr. Herb” Cole of Granite Falls

GRANITE FALLS, NC (September 15, 2017)…Herbert Glenn “Dr. Herb” Cole, 72 of Granite Falls went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Frye Medical Center.

Born June, 5, 1945 in Ashe County: to the late Reverend Edgar Cole and Argyle “Blackburn” Cole. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Rica Johnson Shoffner, a nephew, Chad Cole.

Doctor Herb graduated from Salem High School, Caldwell Community College, Appalachian State University, Wake Forest Theological Seminary and American College of Nutrition. He was a Licensed Naturopathic Doctor with some degrees in Psychology, Divinity, Religious Education, Theology, Herbology Doctrine in Naturopathy.

He started his own Natural Food Store in a smaller building across the street in 1974; then in 1993, he expanded and moved to his current location on Hwy 70.  In 1980 Herbert opened Nature’s Goodness on Hwy 127.  A proud U.S. Army Veteran serving his country in the Vietnam Conflict. He founded the Truth Followers Church also located at the Natural Food Store.

Survivors include his wife of the home, Dawn Church Cole, one son, Dr. Randal Tyler Cole (Shannon), Alexandria, Virginia.  One daughter, Cynthia Cole McNeill (William), Granite Falls.  Siblings include; Sherrill Cole  (Glenda), Drexel; William Cole, Jonesboro, TN; Priscilla Cole (Charley) Johnson, Conover; Edgar “Eddie” Cole, Fleetwood, and Timothy Cole, Icard. Grandchildren include Anthony and Alina Cole, Hillsborough, NC; Victoria McNeill, Charleston, SC; William Matthew, Wesley and Aaron McNeill, Granite Falls. One great grandchild, Allison Cole, Hillsborough, NC.

A “Private” Celebration of his Life will be held Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Truth Followers Church at 2:30 p.m., with the Dr./Rev. Scott Shoffner officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hills Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to the receiving at Bass-Smith Granite Funeral Home on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 6:00 till 7:30 p.m.

Memorials in his honor may be made to Charity of one’s choice.
