Newcomers of Catawba Valley to Host Program on “Miracle on the Hudson” US Airways Flight 1549

HICKORY, NC (December 3, 2017)…A survivor of USAirways Flight 1549 that crash landed on New York’s Hudson River will share her experience with Newcomers of Catawba Valley on December 13.

Elizabeth McHugh was a passenger on the flight home to Charlotte when the plane collided with a flock of Canadian geese, forcing an emergency landing that has come to be known as the Miracle on the Hudson.  McHugh will speak at 10:30 a.m. at the Hickory Regional Airport, 3101 9th Ave. Dr. NW.  She was one of 155 passengers, all of whom survived, many of them from the Charlotte area.  Ms. McHugh is now retired and volunteers at the Carolinas Aviation Museum, near Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, where the airplane is on display.

The public is invited and welcome to attend this program.

Newcomers of Catawba Valley is primarily a social organization that enables new and long-time residents of the region to meet, make friends and participate in a variety of activities, including support of area charities and service programs.  The club is made up of men and women and does not limit how long a member may belong.  Monthly general meetings are usually held at the Hickory Regional Airport at 10:30 a.m. on the second Wednesday of every month.  For more information, visit www.newcomersofcv.com.
