Man dies after accidentally shooting himself…authorities investigating incident

GRANITE FALLS, NC (January 17, 2019) — On Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at approximately 9:05pm the Caldwell County 911 Communications Center received a 911 call reporting that someone was shot at 114 Falls Avenue, Apt 1, Granite Falls, NC. Officers responded to the scene and found Cal Culver Bills, white male, age 29 suffering from a gunshot wound. Caldwell County Emergency Services pronounced Bill’s dead at the scene.

Ricki Ryder Smith, white female, age 23 called 911 reporting the incident. Smith and Bills were together in the apartment at the time of the incident. Smith reported that Bill’s shot himself accidentally.

The Granite Falls Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are investigating the incident. The Granite Falls Police Department responded with Emergency Services. The location of the incident was at the Granite Village Apartments.
