MacLeod completes state SRO Certificate Program

LENOIR, NC (August 9, 2018) — Lenoir Police Department School Resource Officer Brandon MacLeod successfully completed the North Carolina Justice Academy School Resource Officer Certificate Program.

MacLeod has worked with the Lenoir Police Department since 2010. He currently serves as the School Resource Officer for Hibriten High School.

“Officer MacLeod has demonstrated his pledge as a school resource officer by dedicating himself to making the schools safer for our children and the staff that serve them,” said Scott Grantham, instructor with the North Carolina Justice Academy. “Officer MacLeod successfully completed the program with over 400 hours of required training.”

The School Resource Officer (SRO) Certificate Program is designed specifically for SROs who have a desire to increase their training and credentials, according to the North Carolina Justice Academy website. The program courses recognize that an SRO is often required to perform traditional patrol responsibilities in addition to their school-related duties.

Officer MacLeod is the 211th participant to complete the program since its inception in 2002.

Chief Brent Phelps said he was proud of Officer MacLeod and his effort and dedication to complete the program.

“This is a great example of Officer MacLeod’s level of dedication to our schools, students, and community,” Phelps said. “These types of Certificate Programs are strongly encouraged by the leadership of the department, but they are not mandatory.  Officer MacLeod took it upon himself to put in the extra work, so he can serve the students and faculty to the best of his ability.”
