LPD Explorers hosting open house today in Lenoir – 6:00 PM, Thursday, October 25, 2018

LENOIR, NC (October 24, 2018) — Do you know a teenager or young adult interested in law enforcement? Bring them by the Lenoir Police Department headquarters Thursday evening for Explorer Post 246’s Open House.

Sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America, Explorer Post 246 gives members a chance to learn about law enforcement and get involved in the community. Explorers get to ride along with Lenoir Police officers. They receive training and leadership development, and they get to participate in community events including National Night Out, Take A Kid Fishing, DARE Fishing Tournament, and Gravity Games, just to name a few.

The Explorers Post 246 Open House will start at 6:00 pm, Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018. Children and parents should come to the Lenoir Police Department lobby, 1035 West Ave NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Post leaders will give a presentation about the program, answer questions, and take a tour of the department. Attendees also will get treats to take home.

Explorer Rylan White has served with Post 246 for about two years. White said he’s learned a lot about law enforcement and has really enjoyed his time in the group.

“I have learned about how the police navigate buildings to conduct building searches, and I have learned about and met the canine units,” White said. “I have also learned a lot about being on a team and learning to use teamwork. We also help with events in Lenoir and do fun trips.”

“Overall, this is an amazing group, and I will truly miss being in it and taking part in it.”

Explorers Post 246 is open to teenagers and young adults ages 14-20 who have completed the eighth grade, maintained a minimum 2.7 GPA, have good moral character, and have no serious disciplinary or criminal records.
