Local Middle School Students Compete in 2nd Annual Mike Bradshaw Math Competition at CCC&TI

HUDSON, NC (April 29, 2024) ⇒ Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute recently hosted the 2nd Annual Mike Bradshaw Middle School Math Competition where 7th and 8th grade students from Gamewell Middle School, Granite Falls Middle School, Happy Valley School, Hudson Middle School, Kings Creek School and William Lenoir Middle School competed for top individual and team prizes.

The Granite Falls Middle School (GFMS) Team took the top prize for 7th grade with Happy Valley winning the 8th Grade trophy. Individual winners in 7th grade were Max McGee (GFMS), 1st place; Alex Alm (William Lenoir), 2nd place and Bryson McDaniels (GFMS) in third place. Eighth Grade individual winners were Guy Grimbeek of Happy Valley in 1st; Claire Rotting of Kings Creek in 2nd; and Jair Peralta of Gamewell in 3rd.

An invitation to the competition, now in its second year, is extended to each of Caldwell County’s middle schools. In total, 58 students participated in this year’s mathematical showdown named for former CCC&TI math instructor and Department Dean, Mike Bradshaw. Bradshaw taught mathematics at CCC&TI beginning in 1993 and retired as Department Chair in 2015. The competition was renamed in his honor in 2023 by his former colleagues to honor his years of service at CCC&TI.
