Lenoir Police Department hosting church safety training

LENOIR, NC (December 11, 2017)…The Lenoir Police Department is hosting a church safety training Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Lenoir High School Auditorium. The training is free to the public.

Lenoir Police Department Captain Brent Phelps said the training is a way for the department to reach out to churches in the community and provide some basic security information. Church staff can then use that information to decide how they want to address security at their houses of worship.

“Security is an issue that each individual church will have to address,” Phelps said. “We’re trying to train the trainer, and provide some very basic security awareness for church staff.”

Topics Thursday will include Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED), Church Policy, and Active Shooter Response.

“We’ll see what kind of attendance we get Thursday and go from there,” Phelps said.

The Lenoir High School Auditorium is located at 1114 College Ave. SW, Lenoir NC.
