Interim Health Director Named for Caldwell County Health Department

LENOIR, NC (August 1, 2017)…Dr. Mark Picton has been appointed as Interim Health Director by the Caldwell County Board of Health effective at 5pm July 31, 2017. Brittany Dobbins, MPH, CHES, Assistant Health Director will be responsible for Public Health Administrative tasks and/or issues during the interim period.

Dr. Mark Picton, Medical Director at the Caldwell County Health Department for 19 years and is also a Board Certified OBGYN. During his tenure, Dr. Picton has expanded the prenatal clinic and continued to provide child health clinics, well child services and vaccinations for all children. Under his direction, we provide LARC (long acting reversible contraception) with intrauterine devices and implantable hormonal contraception (Nexplanon) and local referral source for gynecological complications. He was also instrumental in overseeing the improvement of the technology advancement with electronic prescription capabilities.

“I have enjoyed providing medical services for the citizens of Caldwell County and now look forward to assisting with the administrative functions of the Caldwell County Health Department as interim Health Director,” says Dr. Picton. “I am confident the Board of Health will select a qualified and professional director in the coming weeks.”

The Board of Health is currently wrapping up the process of interviewing candidates for the Public Health Director position and they expect to make a decision soon.
