Hickory Firefighters Promoted

HICKORY, NC (November 9, 2016)…A promotional ceremony for Hickory firefighters was held on November 9.

Jason McRarymcrary
Jason McRary has been promoted to Fire Captain with the City of Hickory Fire Department. Jason began his career with the Hickory Fire Department on August 23, 2004, when he was hired as a firefighter. Prior to employment with the Hickory Fire Department, he served as a volunteer firefighter with the City of Conover, where he is still an active member and currently serves as a Fire Captain. Mr. McRary holds many certifications through the North Carolina Fire & Rescue Commission. Some of those certifications include Level II firefighter, Operations level of hazardous materials, Driver/Operator in pumps and aerial apparatus, Level 1 fire inspector, Level II fire service instructor, and Level II fire officer. Jason also is an Emergency Medical Technician through the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services. Mr. McRary is also a certified Rescue Technician with specialties including Vehicle Machinery rescue, Ropes, Water Rescuer, and Confined Space. Mr. McRary also has an Associate’s Degree in Architectural Technology through Catawba Valley Community College. He is married to Tammy Johnson-McRary and they have a 2 year old daughter Lola Grace.

Joshua Chapmanchapman
Josh Chapman has been promoted to Fire Apparatus Operator with the Hickory Fire Department. Chapman began employment with the City on July 1, 2009 as a firefighter.  Chapman is certified as a level I and II firefighter, Level II Fire service Instructor, Fire & Life Safety Educator, and Hazardous Materials Operations level and in Emergency Vehicle Driving. He is also certified as an Emergency Medical Technician and as a Technical Rescuer in the areas of Agriculture, Wilderness and Vehicle, Machinery Rescue. In 2014, he completed the Fire Officer 1 and 2 program and in 2011, he completed the North Carolina Rapid Intervention Training program. Chapman has been a member of Sugar Loaf Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years, where he currently serves as Deputy Chief. He and his wife, Jeanna have 3 dogs and attend Salem Lutheran Church. In his free time, he enjoys salt water fishing.
