HICKORY, NC (February 9, 2017)…Do you love your family? Do you worry about their well-being? Of course you do and the members of Hickory Fire Department have a quick and easy suggestion to help make sure they are safe. Check all smoke alarms in your home, preferably every month to make sure they are working and the alarm sound can alert you to a fire or smoke.
If you do not already have alarms, make sure to install one on each level of the home and one in each bedroom. Follow these guidelines to be fully prepared to keep your loved ones safe and sound:
♥ Press the test button found on each alarm to ensure it is working properly. Alarms will alert you, with a low repetitive chirp, when they desperately need new batteries.
♥ Replace batteries if alarm does not go off when tested. If the batteries do not revive the smoke alarm, it will have to be replaced.
♥ Smoke alarms are recommended to be installed on every level of the house and near each sleeping area to ensure your safety.
♥ Keep dust and dirt from building up on your smoke alarms to keep them working longer.
