HICKORY, NC (November 16, 2018) — The following persons have been hired as firefighters for the Hickory Fire Department.
Robert E. Clontz
Robert Clontz has served as a volunteer firefighter with Sawmills Fire & Rescue for over two years. Clontz is certified as an Emergency Medical Technician through the Office of Emergency Medical Services. He holds certifications through the NC Fire & Rescue Commission as a Level 2 Firefighter, Hazardous Materials Operations level, and as an Emergency Vehicle Driver. In 2018, he graduated from Western Carolina University with a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Emergency and Disaster Management. His parents are Kyle and Jane Clontz and has a sister, Hannah.
George Karavas
George Karavas began his firefighting experience with Davidson Fire Department in 2012. He holds certifications through the NC Fire & Rescue Commission as a Level 2 Firefighter and is also certified as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) through the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services. Karavas graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in History.
