LENOIR, NC (February 28, 2018)…On February 26, 2018, HHS Fire Academy had four students, under the leadership of Chief Sam Smith, to participate in the regional SkillsUSA at Wilkes Community College. All four earned medals for their hard work!
Congratulations to Captain Preston Hawkins who is a senior at WCHS this year. He placed first in the National Level Firefighting. Last year, he was state champ in the Intermediate Firefighting level.
For Intermediate Firefighting level, congratulations 2nd place Firefighter Garrett Morris (senior at HHS), 5th place Firefighter Daylan Smithey (senior at HHS), 3rd place Captain Nick Good (junior at WCHS). This is their first year participating in this category.

There were 19 participants in the firefighting competition. It was a very long day but well worth it.
