HAPPY VALLEY, NC (August 19, 2021) — The Board of Directors of the Happy Valley Fiddlers Convention, Inc. has announced the cancellation of the 2021 event scheduled for Labor Day Weekend. The difficult decision was made due to concern for the well-being of musicians, volunteers, and guests as Covid-19 infections are again on an upward trajectory. Of particular concern was the low vaccination rate in our county/region and our event emphasis on the participation of children who cannot yet be vaccinated.
The Happy Valley Fiddlers Convention (HVFC) was established in 2005 as a way to celebrate the musical heritage and the natural beauty of the rural farming community in which the festival is held. The Jones Farm, Highway 268 in Lenoir, North Carolina has served annually as the home of the Happy Valley Fiddler’s Convention until disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This event is well-known throughout North Carolina and the southeast. Loyal attendees from Texas and Florida and other distant locations schedule their annual vacation to include this weekend long event featuring music competition, concerts, dance, storytelling, children’s activities, exhibits, vendors and more.
Board members expressed disappointment when rendering their decision to cancel the 2021 event after a full year of planning and preparation. However, discussions are already underway regarding a special comeback Happy Valley Fiddlers Convention in 2022.
