Granite Falls Man Charged With Assault with Deadly Weapon

GRANITE FALLS, NC (January 8, 2018)…On Sunday, January, 7th, 2018, Deputies with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office responded to 4233 Peachtree Place in Granite Falls after receiving a call from 56-year-old Douglas Alfred Coffey that he shot a man in his house.  At the location Deputies located Talmadge Gaston Coffey, age 54, of 4480 Burns Road, Granite Falls suffering from a gunshot wound.  Talmadge Coffey was airlifted to Carolina Medical Center for treatment from the injuries he sustained from the gun shot.  The incident was as a result of a physical altercation that occurred at the location prior to the call. Investigators arrested Douglas Alfred Coffey and charged him with Assault with a Deadly Weapon inflicting Serious Injury.  He was placed in the Caldwell County Detention Center under a $100,000.00 secured bond.  Talmadge Gaston Coffey later succumbed to the injuries that he sustained from this incident.  The case is currently being reviewed by the 25th Judicial District Attorney’s Office for further charges.
