Granite Falls Fire Department locates individual for police using drone

GRANITE FALLS, NC (April 3, 2019) — The Granite Falls Police Department responded a suspicious activity call at approximately 6:15pm on the evening of Wednesday, April 3, 2019 behind Philadelphia Lutheran Church in its parking lot. After officer Jon Hicks made contact with the individuals, one male fled the scene on foot into the wooded area behind the Granite Falls Recreation Department.

The Granite Falls Fire Department was then called in to assist in the search for the individual that fled.

Fire Chief Brian Bennett and Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Kerley used their new drone which is equipped with thermal imaging in the search and quickly located the individual who was lying down in the wooded area behind the ball fields at the recreation center.

Officers Jon Hicks and Clint Ferguson were then guided into the dark wooded area by Fire Chief Brian Bennett and Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Kerley and quickly took the individual into custody.

At this time, there is no word on why the individual fled from police.
