Girl Scouts and Goodwill team for big results
COLFAX, NC (November 30, 2016)…Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont, in partnership with Goodwill Industries of Central North Carolina, Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina, and Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont, have just wrapped up their annual “Good Turn for Goodwill” community service partnership project. The campaign took place throughout the month of October.
This year, there were 2,443 Girl Scouts from central and western North Carolina who donated 5,817 bags of goods to Goodwill.
“We are all part of the greater community, and this is a way that Goodwill and Girl Scouts can work together to spread that message,” said Jaymie Eichorn, vice president of marketing and communications for Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina. “ “it’s inspiring to see these girls and young women show such generosity and enthusiasm for helping others.”
Local Girl Scouts collected gently used clothing, toys, books and household items that could be sold in Goodwill’s retail stores. In turn, proceeds from the sale of those donated items support workforce development programs which help unemployed and underemployed persons find jobs and get back on their feet.
Lane Cook, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont, said the collaboration allowed girls to gain valuable leadership experience, while helping others.
“This is a great service project for our Girl Scouts to support,” Cook said. “The collaboration gives our Girl Scouts an opportunity to explore a new field of knowledge, and become better prepared to play an active role in their community.”
