First heat wave of the year…

CALDWELL COUNTY, NC (May 23, 2019) — It’s not even officially summer yet, but Caldwell County residents could really be feeling the heat beginning this Friday, May 24th – just in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Computer forecast models are pointing toward high temperatures climbing into the low 90’s through late next week for us – from this Friday, May 24 through next Saturday, June 1.

High pressure aloft will strengthen over the Southeast, diverting the jet stream to the north and minimizing any chance of a cold front passage.

The prolonged nature of this heat wave may make it life-threatening for some.

Minimize your time outdoors during the hottest times of day, typically from late morning through late afternoon. Drink plenty of liquids and wear light, loose-fitting clothing if you must be outside for longer periods of time.

Never leave a child or pet in a sealed vehicle for any length of time. In 2018, there were 52 heat-related deaths involving children left in vehicles unattended.
