End AIDS Walk 2017 set for April 8th in Hickory

HICKORY, NC (March 17, 2017)…ALFA, a Western North Carolina HIV/AIDS prevention and education non-profit, will hold its 8th Annual Awareness walk, this year with a new name – End AIDS Walk – on April 8, 2017! At 9 am, we will meet up at the Ridgeview Recreation Center, take a leisurely walk and end with a Community Celebration and High Heel Dash at Taft Broome Park. The Community Celebration will include music, bounce house, face painting and games.

Registration for the walk is open now at alfainfo.org/endAIDSwalk and costs only $25 and includes an End AIDS Walk t-shirt with an option to purchase a meal ticket for $7 from local food vendor, John Boy’s Cafe. The high heel dash starts at 11 am at Taft Broome Park, and it is completely free! Bring your own heels or make use of our fabulous heel supply.

Teams are encouraged to register in a group of five or more for special pricing, and all teams are eligible to win awards for Largest Team, Most Money Raised, and Most Style. In 2016, ALFA added Hepatitis-C testing to our services, and was were able to test over 1,000 individuals for HIV and Hepatitis. Our education department and staff presented information above HIV education to over 4,000 community members, and our case management staff was able to help 200 people living with HIV/AIDS stay connected with compassionate and vital health care.

ALFA serves nine counties in Western North Carolina providing important services, and the funds and awareness raised at our annual End AIDS Walk helps us achieve our mission of improving the lives and health of those affected by HIV/AIDS while preventing transmission through education and testing.
