‘Dads Rally in Eighth to Beat Greensboro

HICKORY, NC (May 28, 2019) — The Hickory Crawdads came from behind in the eighth inning to defeat the Greensboro Grasshoppers 4-3 on Tuesday evening.

The ‘Dads won the four-game series three games to one and are 6-1 against the Grasshoppers so far this season.

Greensboro hopped on Crawdads starter Cole Winn for a run in the first to take a 1-0 lead.

The Crawdads erased the deficit in the bottom half of the inning. Curtis Terry and Sherten Apostel went back-to-back with two outs to put the ‘Dads ahead 2-1.

Winn, the Rangers number two overall prospect, finished the evening after four innings. He allowed just the one run while giving up two hits and five walks.

Scott Engler came in relief of Winn and pitched three innings, giving up a run to tie the game at two. Grant Anderson took over in the eighth and allowed a run to give the Grasshoppers a 3-2 lead.

The ‘Dads rallied in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-3 lead. Miguel Aparicio and Terry singled to put runners on for Sherten Apostel. Apostel hit a grounder that forced Aparicio out at third. Melvin Novoa flied out but both runners advanced as the Grasshoppers threw the ball away. In the next at bat Terry and Apostel came in to score on a wild pitch, putting the ‘Dads ahead 4-3.

Anderson pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to seal the victory for the ‘Dads.

The Crawdads return on Monday to kick off a seven game homestand. The Crawdads will take on the identity of Las Llamas de Hickory Friday through Sunday as part of Minor League Baseball’s Copa de la Diversion (“Fun Cup”) program. Friday night will feature a post-game fireworks show and live llamas will be at the stadium. On Saturday, the Crawdads will give away bobbleheads of Conrad riding a llama to the first 1,000 fans. The weekend will wrap up on Sunday with Church Bulletin Sunday.
